Hindi Shiksha Sangh of South Africa (HSS)
My work with the Hindi Shiksha Sangh of South Africa (HSS), an NGO, is both relevant and significant with regard to Community Engagement – with no remuneration.
The HSS is a community organization that promotes the Hindi Language and culture in South Africa through its affiliates and Hindvani, its radio station. I am the present Academic Head of the HSS; and I am therefore in charge of all its academic activities, which include teaching the Hindi Language and Literature from the basic level to a Matric equivalent, followed by a 2 year teacher training certificate course. We have about 50 Hindi schools affiliated to the HSS in KZN, Gauteng and 1 in Port Elizabeth. We (I together with my team) are in charge of the syllabus, prescribed books, teaching, setting, marking and moderation of examinations. I personally teach at the senior level on some Saturdays of each month. We also hold regular workshops for teachers and senior students. We are now planning our second Hindi conference for greater community participation. Conferences and Workshops are ongoing projects of HSS.
We are making a great contribution in uplifting the Hindi Community.
In 2010 I also gave 3 Community Lectures (Religious) in Overport, Reservoir Hills and Queensburgh.
