COMMUNIQUÉ FROM THE OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR
REGISTRATION 2023
Dear Staff, Students, Applicants and their parents/guardians,
As we prepare to welcome our 2023 cohort of returning and first-entry students, a lot of careful planning has gone into our registration processes in order to provide all students, but especially our prospective students with relevant registration information and options for online support.
Please take note that ALL registration processes must be completed online and from remote locations, as there will be no registration services and/or registration assistance available on any of our campuses.
The online registration system has been set up to cater for all aspects of the registration processes; including accepting offers; change of mind; applications for re-admission, counselling as required (academic, curriculum and/or personal); financial clearance; registration for residence and final academic registration.
There will be no registration service and/or assistance available on any of our campuses. Students and applicants are implored not to come onto campus, as unregistered persons will not be allowed onto any of our campuses, and no in-person assistance will be available.
All information, including the contact email addresses of relevant staff will be published via regular communiqués and on the main University website (www.ukzn.ac.za) or the College websites, which can be accessed from the main UKZN website.
Registration has been structured to cater for three (3) distinct cohorts of students, in a staggered approach.
Group 1: Returning Research Masters and Doctoral students.
Online registration will commence on Tuesday 10 January 2023. Returning postgraduate students are encouraged to register as soon as is possible to avoid the busy period when the rest of the undergraduate students are also registering.
First-entry Research Masters and Doctoral candidates can register, within reason, throughout the year.
Group 2: All other RETURNING students including all undergraduates, Honours (Hons), Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and Coursework Masters (CWM) students, and new (first entry) honours, postgraduate diploma and coursework master’s students offered a study place.
Online registration will commence on Tuesday , 10 January 2023, however, respective Colleges will be providing curriculum guidance in blocks to respective cohorts of students (e.g. students at risk or on green status may be provided guidance on different days).
Please refer to the respective College registration web pages for more detailed information, as well as check your UKZN e-mail regularly for updates from the Colleges. Online support will be provided via the MS Teams platform and data has been provided to returning students in order to facilitate this process.
Students that are NSFAS funded should familiarise themselves with the information required and associated deadlines related to any/all NSFAS processes – please refer to the UKZN registration and the NSFAS website (https://www.nsfas.org.za/content ) for more information.
Group 3: First entry undergraduates (also known as FTEns)
After the release of the Matric results on 20 January 2023, as proposed by the Department of Basic Education, the University will immediately commence with making firm offers.
Once an applicant receives an offer they should decide if they wish to accept the offer or not – please note that if an offer is not accepted within the stipulated time period the offer will lapse and the space will be offered to another student on the waiting list.
Those applicants that accept their offer should follow the registration steps as outlined in the 2023 UKZN registration website, as well as refer to the key dates for curriculum guidance in the respective Colleges which is located on each College registration web page (accessed from the main UKZN website)
Please note that all registration processes will take place only online from off campus, and that the support and guidance will be provided using the Microsoft Teams Platform (this can be done using a suitable laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone that has access to the internet). All applicants that accept an offer will be provided with appropriate data, in order to conclude with the curriculum guidance and online registration processes. Students needing assistance will also be supported by our Msizi Chatbot or our WhatsApp Chatbot (060 578 3215) systems and live agents (these channels will become active during the registration period) – please refer to the registration website (www.ukzn.ac.za) for how to get help should you need any.
Please pay careful attention to all communications sent to you from the respective Colleges which will guide you on your registration journey.
Those students that have applied for NSFAS funding will be processed academically, however their registration will be parked until their funding is approved by NSFAS, after which the registration process will automatically be concluded. That is, any ‘parked student’ awaiting an NSFAS decision will automatically have their academic registration confirmed once the University receives NSFAS confirmation (and in keeping with all UKZN registration deadlines).
Any students that do not receive funding from NSFAS, will have to secure other funding before the close of the registration process. Please refer to the information on the UKZN registration website on the NSFAS processes for all students.
Late applications and ‘walk-ins’ will not be accommodated, as the University has received in excess of 110 000 on-time applications for only 9 000 first-entry intake places. ‘Change of mind’ by confirmed applicants will be dealt with online.
Some final reminders,
- Please enter the UKZN website by typing in www.ukzn.ac.za. Into your preferred browser (Google Chrome, etc). Do not search for UKZN on/in any search engine.
- You are not required to pay any money to any person to use the UKZN online registration portal. Places in programmes are not for sale, and can not be bought, and no one can promise you a place on the payment of a fee. If you are approached to pay money in return for special assistance, please immediately report that approach to both SAPS and the University (https://forensicservices.ukzn.ac.za/tipoffsanonymous-contact ) with as many details as possible.
- All official communiques and information will be made available on the UKZN website (www.ukzn.ac.za) or in the mainline printed media). Please do not trust information from other social media sources, and be cautious of WhatsApp groups that purport to be official and providing information. Remain vigilant at all times, as there are forces trying to extract money and information for their own ends.
- If in doubt, please use the UKZN Chatbot (www.ukzn.ac.za ) or official WhatsApp Chatline (060 578 3215) to ask questions, to ensure you have the correct and valid response. Please note the live agents will only be available during the registration period and during normal office hours.

Njengoba silungiselela ukwemukela iqoqo lezitshudeni ezibuyayo neziqalayo zonyaka wezi-2023, kuningi esikuhlelile mayelana nohlelo lokubhalisa ukuze sihlinzeke zonke izitshudeni kodwa ikakhulukazi izitshudeni zethu ezintsha ngayo yonke imininingwane efanele nezindlela zosizo lobuchwepheshe.
Qaphelani ukuthi ZONKE izinhlelo zokubhalisa kufanele ziphothulwe ngobuchwepheshe bokuxhumana noma lapho umuntu ekhona njengoba kungeke kubhaliswe noma kusizwe izitshudeni ngokubhalisa kuwo wonke amakhempasi ethu.

Izitshudeni eziqala ukwenza ucwaningo lweMasitazi nolweziqu zobuDokotela nazo zingabhalisa, uma kunesizathu unyaka wonke.

Iqoqo Lesi-3: Izitshudeni zeziqu zokuqala zonyaka wokuqala
Ngemva kokuphuma kwemiphumela kaMatikuletsheni mhla wama-20 Masingana wezi-2023, ngokuhlongoza koMnyango WeMfundo, iNyuvesi iyobe isiqala ukuzwakalisa ukwemukela abantu.
Uma ofaka isicelo esezwile ukuthi siyemukelwa kufanele anqume ukuthi uyasemukela noma uyasichitha – qaphela ukuthi uma ungasheshi ukuvuma ukwemukelwa ngesikhathi esibekiwe esithile ungahle uphuthelwe yisikhala bese leso sikhala sinikwa esinye isitshudeni esihlwini lwabalindile.
Bonke abemukela izicelo abazifakile kufanele balandele izinyathelo ezibalulwe kwisizindalwebu sase-UKZN sokubhalisa babheke nezinsuku ezimqoka ngokwamakharikhyulamu eKolishi ngalinye lapho imininingwane ikhona ekhasini lesizindalwembu sokubhalisa seKolishi ngalinye (okungeneka kusona ngesizindalwembu esikhulu seKolishi).
Qaphela ukuthi zonke izinhlelo zokubhalisa zenzeka ngobuchwepheshe kuphela, hhayi ekhempasini, nokuthi usizo nokucathuliswa kwenzeka esigcawini u-Microsoft Teams (lokhu kungenzeka ngekhompyutha, ithebulethi noma i-smartphone ene-inthanethi)
Bonke abafaka izicelo bavuma ukuthi bayohlinzekwa ngedatha efanele ukuze bacathuliswe ngohlelo lwezifundo nendlela yokubhalisa. Izitshudeni ezidinga usizo ziyolekelelwa nguMsizi Chatbot noma u-WhatsApp Chatbot (060 578 3215) nangabantu bukhoma (lezi zithangami zizosebenza bukhoma ngesikhathi sokubhalisa). Qinisekisa kwisizindalwebu sokubahlisa (u-www.ukzn.ac.za) ukuthi ungaluthola kanjani usizo uma uludinga.
Qikelela ukubheka yonke imiyalezo othunyelelwa yona evela emaKolishi ehlukene ezokusiza ohambweni lwakho lokubhalisa.
Lezo zitshudeni ezifake isicelo seNSFAS ziyobhekwa ngobukhali bazo kwezemfundo, nokho izicelo zazo ziyomiswa kuze kwemukelwe izicelo zeNSFAS zosizo lwezimali, bese kuthi emva kwalokho kuqedelwa izicelo zazo. Lokhu kusho ukuthi izicelo zazo ‘ezilinde’ isinqumo seNSFAS ziyobe zivele zibhalisiwe uma iNyuvesi isithole isiqinisekiso seNSFAS (noma zihambisana neminqamulajuqu yokubhalisa yase-UKZN).
Zonke izitshudeni ezingatholi usizo lwe-NSFAS kuyofanele zithole olunye usizo lwezimali ngaphambi kokuvala kwesikhathi sokubhalisa. Bheka imininingwane kwisizindalwembu sokubhalisa se-UKZN ngenqubo ye-NSFAS yazo zonke izitshudeni.
Izicelo ezishiywe yisikhathi nezabafika bezobhalisa ngeke zemukelwe njengoba iNyuvesi ithole izicelo ezevile kuma-110 000 zezikhala eziyizi-9 000 zezitshudeni ezintsha zeziqu zokuqala.
‘Ukushintsha umqondo’ kwesitshudeni esithathiwe kuyobhekwa enkundleni yokuxhumana yobuchwepheshe.
Ezinye izikhumbuzo zokugcina
- Faka ikheli lesizindalwebu lase-UKZN ngokubhala ukuthi www.ukzn.ac.za kwi-browser oyithandayo (njengo-Google Chrome, njll). Ungabheki i-UKZN noma kuyiphi i-search engine.
- Awulindelekile ukuthi ukhokhe mali kunoma yimuphi umuntu ukusebenzisa isigcawu sokuxhumana sobuchwepheshe sokubhalisa sase-UKZN. Izikhala zezifundo azidayisi kanti akekho umuntu okufanele akuthembise isikhala ngemali. Ungayikholwa imininingwane oyithola kweminye imithombo yezinkundla zokuxhumana futhi uqaphele ama-WhatsApp group azishaya njengasemthethweni nanemininingwane yeNyuvesi. Qaphela ngazo zonke izikhathi, njengoba kukhona izimpisi ezigaqele imali yakho nemininingwane ukuze ziyisebenzisele izinhloso zazo.
