Adult education and empowerment via long term supply of relevant learning and informational material to adult learners in KZN

Adults with limited literacy skills

60 000 copies distributed each week

Has run continuously since 1990 and is ongoing. Currently putting in place new SLA with uMgungudlovu municipality

Evaluated impact or influence, or predicted potential impact
2 readership surveys and 2 evaluations conducted (available from CAE). All very positive. Also letters from individual readers credit this paper with enabling them to develop literacy skills and gain information   

What cooperation is there with other organisations in this outreach?
The Witness newspaper, Umgungundlovu Municipality and numerous past funders

How is the research potential of the outreach being exploited?
Papers based on work in this project have been given at local and international conferences, at least one SAPSE article has been published on it, and two staff members have based their M Ed dissertation on the project (one complete, one in process)  

How many Students are involved in the Project
Occasional writing contributors and one packer

Spinoffs?
Material is used by many school teachers who are appreciative of its current local relevance
